Santa stops at Drumlanrig Castle

9th December, 2014

Santa Claus made a stop in Dumfriesshire for the Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate Christmas Fair last weekend.

Boys and girls at the Fair shared their Christmas wishes with Santa, who handed out tasty treats before heading back to the North Pole.

Making a star appearance at the event was the Maxwelltown High School choir and band, and pupils from Wallace Hall Academy, Ailsa Black, Declan Mcgarvar and Emily Khan who entertained the crowd with seasonal songs.

Visitors had the chance to sample and take home fine produce and gifts, making special presents for family and friends.

Adults and children alike also got the opportunity to take part in festive Ranger activities, making lard balls for feeding the birds over the cold winter months.

Cathryn Burrows, Countryside Ranger at Drumlanrig, said: “We had lots of fun over the two days despite the weather. Our visitors enjoyed browsing the range of gifts and tasty food on offer.

“The choir and band from Maxwelltown High School proved to be a real treat on the Saturday while pupils from Wallace Hall Academy impressed visitors with their stunning singing voices.

“The youngsters were greeted by Santa in his Grotto and got involved in our popular Ranger activities. It was great to see so much local support.”
