4th June, 2015
Tickets are now on sale for the Galloway Country Fair 2015, with this year’s event promising even more for Dumfriesshire locals and visitors.
The popular country event will take place within the stunning surroundings of Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate on August 22 and 23.
The Galloway Country Fair has received support as part of the Year of Food and Drink, an initiative delivered by VisitScotland.
To celebrate the Year of Food and Drink, the Food Marquee will be bigger and better than ever before, offering a wealth of tasty produce for visitors to try and buy. Adding to the culinary focus and providing expert tips for the audience, there will be food and drink demos from Cook School Scotland.
The 2015 Fair will also see the introduction of a brand new, free children’s entertainment zone, giving youngsters the chance to expend their energy and enjoy a fun-filled weekend.
Children can choose from a host of exciting activities, including a giant assault course, a bouncy castle, an inflatable slide, a bucking bronco, mini quad bikes and inflatable laser tag.
Dog-lovers can also expect to be well catered for, as Drumlanrig’s own David Lisett, one of the UKs most renowned dog trainers, will perform gundog displays on both days.
If that’s not enough animal fun, there will also be a scurry and test across the weekend from the Galloway Gundogs.
Thrill seekers can expect to be wowed with displays from the 7Stanes display team, who will perform awe-inspiring mountain biking stunts from leaping across an eight foot gap to jumping over a one metre high bar.
For those looking to try out country sports, the Fair will not disappoint, offering fly casting demonstrations on the lake from Borderlines and a fly casting competition, sponsored by Anderson Strathern. Elite Clays will again supply a shooting competition with a prize provided by Roxtons and Terrier and Lurcher activities will be available throughout the weekend, supplied by The Kevin Valley Lurcher and Terrier Club.
This year will see the return of the much-loved Sheep Show – an educational live stage show about sheep and wool – with the makers also bringing The Dog and Duck Display, a 30 minute duck-herding show. There will also be musical entertainment from the Buccleuch and Queensberry Caledonia Pipe Band, falconry and Highland dancing to enjoy.
The Fair is delivered in association with Border Cars in its role as headline sponsor for the third consecutive year.
Anna Fergusson, Visitor Services Manager, said: “It’s an exciting time for the Drumlanrig team – plans for the Fair are really taking shape with lots of fantastic entertainment on the schedule already.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded funding by EventScotland as part of the Year of Food and Drink. Dumfries and Galloway is known for its top quality produce and our food marquee will be supersized this year as we join in the celebration of Scotland’s outstanding natural larder and produce.”
