Yoga fun in Dumfriesshire for all the family

8th August, 2017

The Yoga bug has swept the nation becoming increasingly popular not just as exercise but for combined mental and physical wellbeing, and Drumlanrig Castle is hosting classes for budding and experienced yogis throughout August – with a special one-off family session.

For a zen start to the day this summer, take part in a Vinyasa Flow Yoga class on Tuesday mornings in the tranquil surroundings of Drumlanrig. The one hour classes – running from 9.45am and led by local teacher Jane Bailey – caters for all abilities and can improve physical flexibility, strength, posture and balance.

Coordinating breath with movement to encourage relaxation, the Vinyasa Flow classes provide a unique opportunity to enjoy the relaxing practice of Yoga against the historic and picturesque backdrop of Drumlanrig Castle.

Alternatively, for a family fun taster of the spiritual discipline, Drumlanrig is hosting a one hour family class on Thursday 17 August from 10.30am until 11.30am.

Claire Oram, Castle Manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “With Yoga becoming so popular we’re delighted to offer outdoor sessions in the grounds of Drumlanrig this season. Our family class in particular was a great success last year and we hope it will be another enjoyable morning for visitors of all ages.

“The Yoga class entry fee allows two hours access to the Estate meaning you can explore the gardens further on your visit or indulge in some well-earned post Yoga refreshments in the Tearoom.”

Classes cost £5 each on Tuesdays or £5 per family for the one-off session. There is no need to book in advance, simply turn up with an exercise mat and plenty of enthusiasm. For further information, Jane can be contacted on 07887 854 553.

The Estate is open to visitors from 10am – 5pm daily through to 30 September. The Castle will be open for tours from 1 July – 31 August.
