Explore 40 Acres of Gardens
You’ll enjoy Drumlanrig Castle Gardens whether you’re an avid gardener or a complete novice when it comes to horticulture. The lovingly tended 40 acres offer both inspiration and relaxation to everyone. And the garden’s colourful heritage and rich diversity are almost as inspiring as the sights and smells of the plants themselves.

Areas to Explore
The lawns, mixed shrub and herbaceous borders provide a scenic location for private events.
The double border is planted with contrasting foliage and flowering shrubs and climbers to give structure, colour and scent as well as seasonal interest. The shrubs and trees are underplanted with a variety of perennials and spring bulbs extend the colour and interest further.
As you stroll through the formal gardens you can’t help but admire the 183m Long Terrace Walk – along a magnificent stone balustrade that’s famous for growing tender climbing plants.
You can marvel at the restored Victorian glasshouses and the distinctive Heather Houses. Modern additions to the gardens have included a rambling Woodland Garden, the restored Victorian Rock Garden and magnificent Rhododendron collection.
Treat Yourself!
If you have been inspired by the Gardens you can even recreate a little piece of them at home with a plant purchase from the Larchwood Cabin. And after all that exploring you will be in need of a cuppa from the Larchwood Cabin Café, conveniently located at the entrance point to the Gardens. Any little ones can also take advantage of the Adventure Playground.

Would you like to Volunteer?
If you would love to experience working in an historic and varied setting with other likeminded people you may enjoy becoming a volunteer?
The group meets once a fortnight undertaking general gardening tasks dependant on the season. You could be planting bulbs, weeding, tidying up the garden beds, or having bonfires all with the wonderful backdrop of the Lowther hills in the distance and the fragrant flowers of the gardens around you!
The sessions will be run by Robbie the Head Gardener. Robbie has been managing the Castle gardens for over 20 years. A great chance to meet new friends, learn new skills, improve your health and wellbeing, enjoy the fresh air and get your hands dirty!
If you would like to know more or would like to sign up to volunteer please call 01848 331 555 or email info@drumlanrigcastle.co.uk
