Snowdrops and Witch Hazels!
Enjoy one of the first signs of spring at Drumlanrig Castle Gardens as we showcase our snowdrops. Follow a specially designed way-marked route around the Gardens and discover the variety of snowdrops on display.
Don’t miss the witch hazels which light up the winter garden with their spidery, fragrant blooms in vivid yellow, orange, and red. These hardy shrubs bring warmth and colour to the frosty landscape, a cheerful surprise when most plants lie dormant.
Refreshments
The Larchwood Cabin and toilets will also be open for delicious light lunches, coffees and traybakes.
A variety of plants will also be available to buy on the day.

Normal Garden entrance charges apply, or take advantage of our 2026 Annual Pass.
Dogs are very welcome on leads.
Entry is via the Larchwood Cabin, please turn left as you cross the bridge and follow the signs.
Winter Photography Competition
Winter brings a magical atmosphere to the estate, and we want you to showcase it! Crisp frost, soft light, and serene gardens provide the perfect backdrop for your creative vision. Capture the essence of Drumlanrig during this season, and you could win an annual pass, giving you unlimited access to explore and photograph the gardens and estate throughout the year.
We’re looking for outstanding photography that truly captures the beauty of Drumlanrig -whether your photos feature people or focus solely on the stunning landscapes and architecture. Beautiful, evocative shots of Drumlanrig in winter are what we’re after – images that inspire, delight, and make the estate shine in all its seasonal glory.
The competition has two categories: Under 16s and Over 16s.
To enter, simply send your photograph to marketing@buccleuch.com with:
- The name of your entry
- Your name
- Your Instagram handle (if applicable)
- Your age category (16 & Under or Over 16)
Entries must be made by Tuesday 17 February. Winners in each category will be selected and notified by Monday 23 February.
T&C’s
- By submitting your photograph, you are allowing us to share your image in our online gallery and on social media. You will be tagged/credited.
- A max of three photographs per entry.
- Photographs should have been taken this Winter at Drumlanrig.
- If your photograph includes people, you must have the necessary permissions to photograph them.
- Photographs should be maximum 10MB
- Please note that Drumlanrig operates a strict no-drone policy. Drone photography is not permitted unless prior permission has been arranged and agreed in advance of your visit.
