Free fishing at Drumlanrig

13th February, 2015

Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway is set to launch its fishing open week early next month ahead of the 2015 season – with both keen anglers and beginners being urged to visit for a free session.

The Estate will welcome fishing enthusiasts throughout the first week in March – from Monday 2nd to Saturday 7th to sample quality river beats free of charge.

Rab Kerr, River Manager, said: “Whether you are new to the sport, haven’t been fishing in a while or simply want to try out somewhere new, this is a brilliant chance to take up the opportunity to try it out.

“The Castle may still be closed for winter but fishing is very much open and is off to a successful start with bookings already in place. We hope to see lots of new faces fishing with us this year so be sure to book in advance to secure your spot.”

The River Nith is the largest river in Dumfries and Galloway, and has an established reputation for the quality of its salmon and sea trout. The river travels from its source at New Cumnock in Ayrshire, to its mouth at the Solway.

Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate gives you access to 10.5 miles over five beats of the river Nith (Nith Linns, Castle Upper, Castle Middle, Castle Lower and Mid Nithsdale) containing approximately 40 pools.

Booking is essential for the open week and must be confirmed through the Estate Office on 01848 600415.
