Galloway Country Fair 2013 to be the biggest yet

28th May, 2013

Following on from the resounding success of 2012’s event, the Galloway Country Fair will once again descend on the spectacular Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate this August – and is expected to be the biggest to date.

With Border Cars secured as headline sponsor, the annual fair – which has established itself as one of the premier rural events in the Scottish calendar – will take place on the weekend of 17th and 18th August.

It is expected to attract thousands of people from across the country with more activities, traders and demonstrations for all the family than ever before.

The 2013 event is anticipated to become even more important in the yearly calendar, during the Scottish Government-led Year of Natural Scotland campaign.

Year of Natural Scotland celebrates Scotland’s stunning natural and historic landscapes, art inspired by nature, surprising wildlife and delicious food and drink, all of which feature heavily during the weekend.

Highlights this year include clay pigeon shooting, Highland Games, celebrity chef demonstrations, dog displays and trials as well as a selection of fantastic retailers. It will also offer an array of entertaining acts in the main arena and an impressive food hall area showcasing a delicious selection of delectable regional produce with cookery demonstrations and sampling.

For the second year running, Gunmakers Row will feature a wide range of firearms, rifles, shooting accessories and fishing tackle from leading suppliers.

In addition world-renowned spaniel trainer Ian Openshaw will be showcasing what his dogs can do and motorcycle stunt rider Steve Colley will thrill the crowd with his flips and tricks in the main arena.

The Fishing Village will host demonstrations, casting clinics and children can learn about the sport and have a go. And with a funfair, and bustling craft marquee , the weekend is sure to be a fun-packed weekend for all the family.

Advance tickets are still available from  at 25% reduction on advertised prices until 1 August 2013. Tickets will also be available on the day.

A shuttle bus service will run between Thornhill (departing Wallace Hall Academy car park, stopping at  the Buccleuch and Queensberry Hotel) and Drumlanrig Castle for the Galloway Country Fair on both the Saturday and Sunday of the event. The cost is £1 and will run on the hour from Thornhill and on the half hour from the Castle back to Thornhill.
