Summer days out at Drumlanrig Castle

13th August, 2015

Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate has a calendar packed with events this summer and, with only a few weeks left of the school holidays, it’s the perfect time to make the most of it.

The Fairy and Pixie Woodland Trail is sure to capture the imagination of youngsters this summer as they follow paths in the hope of uncovering the secrets of Drumlanrig Castle. The walk takes place from 11am until 4pm on Sunday 9th August.

A personalised leaf crown and a magic wand are extras that are sure to add to the magical experience of the Woodland Trail. The young detectives can make their very own wands and crowns at a special workshop from 1pm until 2pm on the same day as the Trail. Admission is £1 per child.

Those exploring the Estate at leisure can ensure the kids are kept entertained with a brand new swing within the Adventure Playground. The rope-ended swinger encourages groups of children to work together to build height on the swing.

The pièce de résistance on the Estate calendar this month is Galloway Country Fair, one of Scotland’s biggest and most popular country events.

The annual Fair will take place from 9am until 6pm on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August.

This is a chance for visitors to sample local produce, peruse the trade stalls and watch a variety of entertainment in the arena. There will be activities for the family to get involved with clay pigeon shooting, baking competitions among others.

Tickets cost: £12 per adult, £5 per child (6-16) and £30 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children).

Just one week later, Electric Fields will return to Drumlanrig Castle following last year’s highly successful first outing at the Estate. The one day event, with additional camping option, celebrates its second year with increased capacity for more music fans to enjoy local bands and performers. The Phantom Band, Blanck Mass and Vessels are just some of the names gracing the stage and entertaining the 3,000 music fans set to attend. Scottish singer songwriter King Creosote has been announced as headliner.

Electric Fields Festival will be held on Saturday 29th August and tickets range from £16 to £42.
