Under The Skin

Film fanatics will have a chance to see the Queensberry Estate as it has never been seen before – through alien eyes – thanks to new Hollywood thriller ‘Under the Skin’.

The hotly-anticipated film, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September, stars the stunning Scarlett Johansson as an alien in human form who journeys through Scotland. It’s widely known that much of the film was shot in Glasgow and the Scottish Highlands, but the Queensberry Estate also puts in a guest appearance.

Sexy alien seductress Scarlett, who prowls deserted night streets looking for human prey, shot scenes at the Estate’s very own Morton Mains Cottage.
The film’s biggest star, Scarlett Johansson, features in scenes shot at the single-storey, traditional 19th century, pink sandstone cottage which sits three miles north-east of Thornhill.

‘Under The Skin’, based on the popular novel by Michel Faber, is the latest offering from director Jonathan Glazer who shot to critical acclaim in 2000 with his film ‘Sexy Beast’. Following the release of his latest movie, Glazer – who has also famously directed music videos for Radiohead and Massive Attack – has been likened to other silver screen greats Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock by some film critics.
