1. Way-Marked Walks
If you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or a gentle hike, Drumlanrig’s walking network offers trails to suit every pace. Open 365 days a year (forestry work/storm damage may affect some routes), you can explore even when the season’s finished.
Head up into the hills for picture-perfect views of the Castle or wander along the riverside and spot herons or oystercatchers going about their day. Don’t miss points of interest along the way, including Andy Goldsworthy’s iconic sandstone Leaping Arch.
Beyond the way-marked routes, the Estate is crisscrossed with miles of forest tracks and stunning scenery, ensuring a full day of fresh-air adventures, whatever the season.
2. The Castle Tearoom
We know you just can’t get enough of the delicious flavours of Drumlanrig, so this year the Castle Tearoom remains open beyond the season, on Sundays only – the perfect spot to refuel while exploring the Estate.
Sunday Roasts take centre stage on the menu, served with all the trimmings to get your taste buds tingling. Other light lunches are available, with delicious cakes and refreshments to pick from too.
Open Sundays only, 11am – 4pm!
3. Holiday Accommodation
Sometimes, a holiday is all you need! Even when the season winds down, Drumlanrig’s holiday properties remain open, offering a special stay in every season.
With a range of accommodation – from spacious cottages to cosy apartments – you’ll find the perfect home-from-home. Explore the Estate right from your doorstep, bring along your four-legged friends, or simply enjoy lazy days by the log fire.
4. Stableyard Workshops
Traditionally, the Stableyard at Drumlanrig Castle was home to skilled craftsmen and their trades – and today, that creative spirit lives on. Several of the Stableyard units now house independent makers, including The Kitchen Witch, Bspoke by Margaret, and Sit and Recover.
These workshops are independently run, each with their own unique opening times. Even beyond the open season, you’ll often find the creators hard at work – and visitors are always welcome to stop by, browse and say hello.
5. Scottish Assault Courses
Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate is home to the Dumfries site of Scottish Assault Courses – where the adventures keep coming no matter the season!
Open all year round, SAC offers heart-pounding challenges and thrills for every adventurer. From testing your aim at the gun range or axe throwing, to taking on the ultimate Assault Course, there’s no shortage of excitement for those seeking a memorable adrenaline rush.
6. Country Pursuits
The winter months are a perfect time to enjoy the great outdoors at Drumlanrig. With the main season behind us, there’s more space and time to explore the wider Estate!
Try your hand at fishing in one of our stocked lochs or along the river, hire an e-bike to tackle the trails with an extra boost, or embrace the country lifestyle with our simulated game experience. Whatever you choose, there’s plenty of outdoor adventure to enjoy, whatever the season.
7. Christmas Events
This winter, we’re hosting A December to Remember at Drumlanrig – a jam-packed calendar of festive fun for all the family. Throughout the month visitors will be able to visit the Estate once more this year, with extra magical activities to keep all parties entertained!
Plus, the Gardens will be open at weekends in December up until and including Sunday 21st for the chance to embrace the winter landscape.
